Twitter Phishing Expedition Today

Posted on: July 24th, 2011 by thebride

I just got a DM from a friend on Twitter saying "Someone said this real bad thing about you in a blog" and then a shortened URL. Seeing as it looked highly suspicious, I didn't click it, and I advise you don't click either, despite how tempting it sounds. Apparently, it's a phishing scam along the lines of the "is it you in this picture" and the "is this blog about you" scams that have come before it, and it manages to grab access to your account and spam all your friends with the same message.

If you have accidentally clicked the link already, go into your Twitter account and navigate to settings -> applications, then revoke permissions to any / all suspicious-looking  applications. Changing your Twitter password is also a good idea. Letting your friends know that it was a fake and not to click the link may also be advisable. :)

Stay safe out there!
